Beschreibung des Museums:

ARMRELIQUIAR DER BEATRIX VON HOLTE Rheinland, um 1300 Holz, Silber teilvergoldet, getrieben, Niello, Filigran, Steine, Perlen Inv. 34 Äbtissin Beatrix von Holte (reg. 1292-1327) stiftete den silbernen Arm als Behältnis für eine Reliquie des Stiftspatrons Cosmas. Auf der Nielloplatte am Unterarm ließ sich die Äbtissin in geistlichem Gewand mit Schleier in einer gotischen Nische stehend darstellen. Die begleitende Inschrift lautet: BEAT(RI)X ABBA(TISSA) ASNID(E)N(SIS) DE HOLTHE ME FIERI FECIT. (Beatrix von Holte, Äbtissin von Essen, ließ mich anfertigen). Das gotische Türmchen erinnert an Beatrix' Verdienste als Bauherrin. Nach dem Brand der Stiftskirche im Jahre 1275 ließ sie das Essener Münster in gotischen Formen neu errichten.

Description of the museum:

ARM RELIQUIAR OF BEATRIX VON HOLTE Rhineland, c. 1300 Wood, silver partly gilded, chased, niello, filigree, stones, pearls Inv. 34 Abbess Beatrix von Holte (r. 1292-1327) donated the silver arm as a container for a relic of the collegiate patron Cosmas. The niello plate on the forearm depicts the abbess in clerical garb with a veil standing in a Gothic niche. The accompanying inscription reads: BEAT(RI)X ABBA(TISSA) ASNID(E)N(SIS) DE HOLTHE ME FIERI FECIT. (Beatrix von Holte, abbess of Essen, had me made). The Gothic spire is a reminder of Beatrix's merits as a builder. After the fire at the collegiate church in 1275, she had Essen Minster rebuilt in Gothic style.
